Cranberries are said to have a positive effect on our health. Their benefits include fighting free radicals, anti-bacterial, diuretic and healing properties and lowering high temperatures. Cranberries stimulate the appetite, and are helpful in cases of diarrhoea, spring fatigue, gout, rheumatism, cystitis, oral mucositis and arteriosclerosis [1 and 2].
Dried cranberries contain the same nutrients as fresh cranberries, in a concentrated form. The full power of nature.
In their natural state, cranberries have a sour taste, and are therefore treated with unrefined sugar and a little oil. The oil prevents the berries from sticking together. After processing, the cranberries taste pleasantly fruity and sweet. They have a very soft consistency and are shiny pink in colour. The fruit flesh has air pockets containing small edible seeds.
Origin and Production:
Our organic cranberries are imported from Canada. The cranberries grow on small bushes in fields. The fields are flooded with water and this is carefully vacuumed up by a machine. Only the ripe fruits float on the water’s surface.
After harvesting, the cranberries are halved and heated with water and organic unrefined sugar. They lose their bitter sourness and the fruity, tasty cranberry flavour comes out. The berries are then gently dried over a longer period and finally drizzled with organic sunflower oil to prevent sticking.
