Eating almonds regularly can result in quite substantial health benefits! Research has shown that the polyunsaturated fatty acids contained in almonds stabilise blood cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure and inhibit inflammatory reactions.

Further benefits include the high level of B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorous and manganese. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, protecting our bodies from harmful oxidation, free radicals and stabilising the cell membranes. Almonds also provide the body with calcium, iron, potassium and zinc [1 to 3].

They are an excellent choice as part of a balanced healthy diet.

Description:

Our wild organic Fairtrade mountain almonds grow in remote forests, far from human civilisation. The quiet secluded conditions allow the almonds to ripen undisturbed, developing their full potential. You can taste the difference, since wild almonds have a stronger flavour and a hint of nature’s wild origins. It is thought that the mix of nutrients and vital substances in wild growing almonds is superior to that of almonds ripening in normal conditions. Above all, the quality is practically of the same grade almonds originally had.

Origin and Production:

We source our organic wild almonds exclusively from a remote mountainous region in Uzbekistan / Samarkand. Large parts of the region are certified for organic and FAIRTRADE products, and are cultivated by the FAIRTRADE farmers living there. The farmers are part of a large Fairtrade community made up of 3 groups, Dustkul Bogi, Turkiston Gulba and Turob Bobo. 1,000 farmers and their families belong to the community. By working with Fairtrade, the farmers can provide their families with a secure income and offer their children new opportunities.

After harvesting, the almonds are gently dried using solar energy. The drying process is very eco-friendly, using a solar drying method that has a minimal impact on the product.

Why you should germinate our nuts!

 Germinating nuts:

Inhibits and reduces levels of phytic acids

Phytic acids occur in natural foods, inhibiting digestion of minerals. Reducing amounts of phytic acids allows the minerals to be absorbed by the body, providing it with the associated benefits [1].

  • Inhibits and reduces tannins

The plant deploys tannins for its own protection. When excessive amounts of tannins are digested, flatulence (digestive problems) may result and consumption of iron and calcium (or minerals) may be reduced [2].

  • neutralises enzyme inhibitors

The human body needs certain reactions to take place in order to function efficiently, and certain enzymes are needed for these reactions. If the enzymes are functionally inhibited, the body can’t work optimally. That’s why it’s important to reduce inhibition to a minimum.

  • Supports generation of useful enzymes and
  • Increases vitamin levels, especially B vitamins

The germination processes cause the plant to start budding again. Many important vital substances are activated and mobilised, for example vitamins and enzymes. This makes germinated nuts considerably more nutritious than nuts that are not germinated.

How to germinate the nuts:

Good results are obtained when the nuts are placed into lukewarm water in the evening and left overnight. The nuts will have germinated by the next morning. If you have more nuts than you need in the morning, store them in the refrigerator without the water. If you want to keep them for a longer period, you can dry the nuts on a dry surface or in the oven.

Depending on the foodstuff used, germination periods are generally around 7 to 24 hours.
