Dried Inca berries (physalis) contain considerable quantities of vitamin A (important for sight, the metabolism and the skin), C (antioxidant) and B3 (niacin) and high levels of iron too . Analyses have been made of the pits, showing that they contain omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids, phytosterols / phytostanols such as β-sitosterol, campesterol, vitamin K and beta-carotines. . The phytosterols have a positive effect on the intestine’s cholesterol level, since they prevent it being absorbed from food.
Our organic wild physalis pieces with cocoa powder have a very intensive, aromatic and sour taste that is stronger and more marked than in normal physalis berries. The rich flavour of raw cocoa powder also comes through, enhancing the overall taste or providing an even more intensive cocoa taste. Our physalis pieces can be used just as they are, without any further processing steps. The physalis pieces are of a pourable consistency, and are soft in texture.
Origin and Production:
We source our organic wild physalis exclusively from a remote mountainous region in Uzbekistan. They grow on wild shrub-like plants in the remote mountain regions around Samarkand. Large parts of the region are certified for organic farming and are worked by the local organic farmers at harvesting time only. The farmers in this area have complied with organic cultivation criteria for many years and are proud of their contribution towards sustaining the natural balance.
Physalis berries are harvested by hand when fully ripe. The leaves / sepals are removed afterwards, and the berries are washed and then gently dried using solar energy. The drying process is very eco-friendly, using a solar drying method that has a minimal impact on the product.
Organic raw cocoa powder is produced with the greatest care in the USA before being exported.
Our physalis and the cocoa powder are pressure treated and controlled in Austria. During the pressure process, the combination of pressure and time ensures that the product is completely free of pests.
Final processing is also carried out in Austria complying with the highest quality standards.
