Gooseberries have a rather unremarkable appearance and are no longer cultivated in large amounts. This is an unfortunate trend, since the berries are rich in vitamin C and many more vital substances such as vitamins and minerals [1 and 2].
Dried gooseberries contain the same nutrients and vital substances as fresh gooseberries, only in a concentrated form. This makes them an even better, and above all, healthy source of vital substances for our bodies. The natural world makes it possible for the berries to give us this nutritional bounty.
Gooseberries are grown in smaller quantities than was the case a few years ago. However, these highly complex small berries have a pleasantly fruity acidity and are very aromatic. The berries are 2 – 3 cm large and are smooth-skinned. Some of the berries may have small hairs. Their colour ranges from yellowish and greenish to red and brown shades. The fruit flesh is soft and the seeds edible.
Origin and Production:
We source our organic gooseberries exclusively from a remote mountainous region in Uzbekistan / Samarkand. Large parts of the region are certified for organic farming and are worked by the local organic farmers at harvesting time only. The farmers in this area have complied with organic cultivation criteria for many years and are proud of their contribution towards sustaining the natural balance.
The gooseberries are picked by hand. After harvesting, the gooseberries are washed, the stalks removed and then gently dried using solar energy. The drying process is very eco-friendly, using a solar drying method that has a minimal impact on the product.
The gooseberries are pressure treated and controlled in Austria. During the pressure process, the combination of pressure and time ensures that the product is completely free of pests.
