For some people, pepper, the indispensable all-rounder in the kitchen, is the only spice they ever use. However, we think that „variety is the spice of life“, so we offer a large range of spices.
In former times, pepper had the same status as gold and was traded for high prices. Of course, pepper has retained all its positive aspects in the meantime, seasoning food, stimulating the digestion and creating a warm feeling in the body .
Pepper is a well-loved spice and ours has two advantages – it’s organic and Fairtrade too!
Our black pepper is very intensive, with a strongly aromatic fragrance characteristically taste. You´ll love the quality and the taste. Our organic Fairtrade pepper is gently produced from pre-sorted whole pepper with the greatest care. Our pepper is completely natural and 100% pure and ideal for processing.
Origin and Production:
We source our organic fairtrade pepper from Sri Lanka. Fairtrade farmers‘ gardens and fields are certified for organic and FAIRTRADE cultivation. The farmers are members of one of the two Fairtrade groups, SOFA or MOPA. Thanks to cooperation with Fairtrade, the farmers can earn their living in a secure and independent fashion. The Fairtrade bonus helps them to finance projects such as clean drinking water, learning materials for schoolchildren and educational projects.
After the whole peppercorns have been harvested by hand, they are cleaned and dried. During drying the corns turn dark to black in colour, and become wrinkled. Finally the powder is carefully processed from the dried whole pepper corns, in hygienic conditions, ensuring high quality.
As you can imagine, farmers in Sri Lanka still greatly value work that is done by hand, carrying out many individual processing stages in the traditional way. This provides urgently needed jobs in the region, and the product also profit from direct human contact.
The black pepper is pressure treated and controlled in Austria. During the pressure process, the combination of pressure and time ensures that the product is completely free of pests.
