The name suggests that wild rice is a type of rice, but botanical genealogy does not categorise it as a rice, and it is not a product of rice plants (oryza sativa). Wild rice is the fruit of water rice (oryzeae), which grows in water (rivers, lakes and ponds) in North America or East Asia. This annual rice plant grows to a height of up to 3 metres. The fruits (grains) are slender, long and green. Wild rice gets its typical dark brown to black colour after being dried. Also known as „Indian rice“, wild rice has a nutty flavour and is considered to be a delicacy. It’s also more expensive than normal rice. Wild rice is very sensitive, reacting to climatic changes and differences in water levels.
Our organic wild rice has very long grains and is an attractive brown to black colour. The grains are aromatic, long and very pure.
Add some variety to your organic cuisine and cook up some delicious organic dishes for yourself and your family.
Origin and Production:
We source our organic wild rice exclusively from Canada. Wild rice cultivation has a long tradition in Canada, where it is grown, harvested and dried in accordance with organic criteria and strict controls. Each processing stage is undertaken using high hygienic standards.
After harvesting, our organic wild rice is cleaned several times, ensuring high purity. Our wild rice is given our standard pressure treatment. During the pressure process, the combination of pressure and time ensures that the product is completely free of pests.
