„The gold of the Incas“! Quinoa is a so-called pseudo cereal, containing no gluten. This makes it ideal for a low gluten and gluten free diet – and our quinoa is tested for gluten!
In contrast to normal cereals, quinoa has quite considerable amounts of magnesium, zinc and B vitamins. It also has high protein levels with a perfect composition of amino acids. This special characteristic is what gives quinoa its reputation as the “gold of the Incas”, as even a diet consisting mainly of quinoa provides the body with all vital (essential) amino acids [1 and 2]!
Quinoa should be part of a balanced diet.
Alleviate Headache Pain
There are many different reasons for headaches. However, studies have proven (reference work by Dr. med. Helmut B. Retzek ), that magnesium, zinc and B vitamins can positively affect this type of pain, which often occurs frequently.
Quinoa can help us to do this, as it contains these 4 important ingredients in a totally natural form.
Quinoa seeds contain a bitter tasting substance called saponin which serves as a natural protection against pests, and has haemolytic (blood dissolving) properties. The saponins are in the grain husk can be removed by thorough washing and soaking (use fresh water when cooking).
Our quinoa has been carefully cleaned and tested for gluten several times. We sell only the finest quinoa grains in our range of products. The quinoa has a pleasantly strong taste, with a typical quinoa flavour. Our quinoa grains are an attractive pale colour.
The remove Andean village „Salinas de Garci Mendoza“, is 4,000 metres above sea level and is part of the Bolivian Oruro district. Around 700 people live in the village, situated at the foot of the Cerro Caricha mountain, 15 km from the world’s largest salt lake (Salar de Uyuni). Our organic Fairtrade quinoa is grown in this remote region.
In 1994, several farmers from the region got together to found the Asociación de Productores de Quinua Salinas”, or APQUISA – a farmers‘ association now having around 230 members. The farmers were awarded a Fairtrade certificate in 2007.
One of the main reasons for „Fairtrade International“ recognition, carried out by „FLO-Cert“, was the fact that the Salinas farmers are responsible for all processing steps (washing, drying, packaging), so the famers profit directly from the sale of their produce. There are no additional costs for rental or processing, and the money earned remains with the farmers, who can in turn invest in the region with the added value produced.
The final processing is also carried out in Austria complying with the highest quality standards.
